How to Handle Landscaping When Selling in a Heatwave

Selling your home during a heatwave presents a unique set of challenges, especially when it comes to landscaping. Brown patches, wilted flowers, and drooping shrubs can quickly detract from your property's curb appeal, even if the rest of your home is picture-perfect. 

Use these tips to keep your yard looking its best for buyers this summer, regardless of how high the temperature rises:

1. Prioritize Smart Watering

During a heatwave, water efficiency is key. Therefore, you should focus on watering early in the morning or late in the evening when evaporation rates are lower. Additionally, understand that deep watering less frequently is more beneficial than shallow watering every day, as it encourages roots to grow deeper and better tolerate heat. You'll want to prioritize the most visible areas, like the front lawn and any high-impact flower beds. If local water restrictions are in place, use mulch to retain moisture and reduce the need for daily watering. This also adds a tidy, polished look to your beds.

2. Go For Heat-Tolerant Plants

Landscaping features like drip irrigation, xeriscaping, or artificial turf make your yard easier to maintain. These elements will not only make your lawn look great, but they can also be appealing to buyers who want a beautiful yard without the high maintenance.
